Philistine Definition

Basically, a Philistine has an elitist attitude towards elites!  So, show caution with attitudes towards your foe, as you may be branded a philistine!  Understand who they are, where they come from, and what they represent. Then defeat them through a well planned strategy, not by smugness.

Who were the Philistines?

Other than Bible scholars, the Philistines are just a forgotten populous from history.  Below is a map of Philistine. The Philistines were a people who inhabited the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, due west and adjacent to the Israelites.  Major cities and ports were Gaza, Joppa, Ashdod, and Gath, amongst others.

Philistines were fierce warriors, like the brute Goliath, they repeatedly battled the Israelites. For their day, the Philistines had superior ironworking skills and at times conquered the Israelites. There are many quotes in the bible that reference these activities and their relationship with Israel.

The dictionary, and even the definitions above, fail to provide any helpful information.   Surprisingly, even the dictionary contains little useful information on them.

Philistine has gained the current and popular definition as a hostile, brutish and unrefined individual. Many assume this came about through generations of biblical interpretation of these gentiles who were common and uncircumcised. Ultimately a person who is hostile or indifferent to culture, and whose interests or tastes are commonplace or materiaisticl.So, What does Philistine mean?

PHILISTINE:  One of a mind that is a creature of his environment, following any fashion in thought, feeling or sentiment.  Someone lacking in liberal traditions, culture and refinement. Also, one without appreciation of the nobler aspirations and sentiments of humanity.  One who is limited to selfishness and material interests.
