Bloom Energy to unveil it’s Electricity Generating Flexible Fuel Cell

SUNNYVALE, CA – February 22: Bloom Energy, a Sunnyvale, California technology company is planning to unveil the fuel cell they’ve been working on. The Fuel Cell is said to provide businesses and homes the ability to generate their own electricity.

Tech journalists have been summoned to the San Jose campus of eBay Wednesday for the official unveiling of the so-called “Bloom Box” at a high-powered event to include Bloom co-founder and CEO K.R. Sridhar, venture capitalist John Doerr, former Secretary of State Colin Powell and “a prominent California government official” widely believed to be Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Bloom is the first cleantech investment in the vast portfolio of venture firm Kleiner Perkins Caulfied & Byers, where Doerr is a partner and where Powell and Sridhar are “strategic limited partners.”

According to the Kleiner Perkins Web site, Bloom Energy “develops a flexible fuel cell system that produces clean, reliable and affordable energy from a wide range of fuels,” ultimately giving consumers the ability to generate their own electricity for less than they pay their utility as well as reduce their carbon emissions by at least half.

According to the Mercury News site, Search engine giant Google was Bloom’s first paying customer; a Bloom Box sits behind one of the buildings on the Mountain View campus and has been powering a large chunk of the building’s energy needs since July 2008.
